Although irl nobles and royalty were often utterly useless since it was usually inherited by firstborn males who weren’t always the brightest. Even ones that were smart were usually awful rulers since they tended to take advantage of commoners so irl a commoner queen who was determined to rule may have actually brought empathy/practical knowledge which sheltered nobles simply didn’t have.
I agree, but the problem with the manga commoner girl who the prince falls in love with is that they’re generally portrayed as useless, petty and money/ power hungry themselves, and childish to boot, hence why I find them annoying you know? I feel like if she was portrayed as an honest, compassionate and hard working woman there wouldn’t be a problem.

The thing that annoys me the most in these kinds of stories is when the prince proceeds to absolutely ignore the years (or decades) that his fiancé spent on getting an education and then decides he wants to marry an uneducated commoner instead. Don’t get me wrong, falling in love and breaking off his engagement is one thing, but when he sets his fiancé up to make her look bad as an excuse to break it off it annoys me to no end. What kind of queen/ empress would an uneducated commoner/ low class noble girl even make?? She can’t do finances/ taxes, can’t help with strategies in case of a war, can’t help with treaties with other countries- she would probably embarrass the country and offend the others with her lack of education/ etiquette which could cause a war in and of itself... so why the heck condemn your own country like that?? Like do these crown princes have no education of their own? That would explain why the fiancé has to work so hard from childhood I guess... but then why does the royal family allow the prince to break it off?
