Well in the scene the spit drinking is...necessary actually. For the Esper to receive a proper guiding they need to do a physical contact, and body fluid.

Everyone’s all happy and joyful, and here I am. Bored with the sex and grossed out from the spit drinking. Apparently I needed interesting plot more than I thought I did. The art is beautiful though.
