I don't remember exactly what ultimately instigates it but he pulls out all financial aid from the imperial family by cutting off all business ventures related to them. They'll be literal fish out of water. They kept on poking Lombardi until the grandfather had about enough of their instigation.

You might think Lombardi has too much power. The thing is, they're not even nobility at all. That was the deal. They were both supposed to respectfully help each other out but the imperial family was too greedy. If you think about it, if played right, they could have had it easy. Doing business with Lombardi ethically would have allowed for the imperial fam to gain their own funds but nah. They just wanted everything (Empress I meant you. You're the problem)
