Ppl literally use it to mean the same as top and bottom which is lowkey fetishization imo like wdym u as a straight woman want to place urself in the position of the bottom as the mc so u can fantasize abt being with the top… pls get therapy. I’ve recommended ppl stuff and they’re like “oh sorry I don’t read stories where the ml is the mc” like do u even hear urself that makes zero sense if he’s the mc, he’s the mc. he’s not the ml

I still don't understand why people say it's "male character" = bottom & "male lead" = top
Like first of all gurl this is a gay manga ofc they're male
Second why would you call the love interest the MC just bc he likes to be pounded

Also saw someone saying it was a way to not define the characters by their sex position but if you're ONLY calling MC the bottom and ML the top YOU'RE STILL DOING THE SAME THING(╯°Д °)╯╧╧

I think mc means "main character" tho, while ml is the "main lead" so it has nothing to do with being male (u can even find it being used on straight stories) but ur point still stands, people are now only using it to associate with bottom and top positions when it comes to bl for some reason -_-

It's because the stories are usually written in the bottom's perspective. So as the "main character", mc just became synonymous with bottom. When it's repeated enough, it becomes the norm, ya know. Mc's who are tops are kind of rare in the bl department.

I got it, but it's still mildly annoying when the terms aren't used correctly.T^T Well, it's whatever it's not like it's ruining my reading experience. Anyway thx for explaining
