I think dominant and recessive is referred to the strength of their phenomenons. (Just like what Yuri said)

The dominant omega can force the dominant alpha with his pheromeons into rut.
I could decribe a situation from one of the author's novels.
Heavy spoilers on "Desire me if you can", there you have two of them...which are in addition true monsters. You think Josh is a manly omega? -No one beats Dane. That guy even topped alphas which were smaller than him, and he is really big, 196cm tall.
And Grayson is not a normal dominant alpha, that guy was born manifested, releases more pheromones than a normal one etc.

Dane went into heat, after an failed kidnapping (orchestrated by Josh, so it's his fault) attempt on Grayson (Grayson jumped (hidden parachute) out of a flying helicopter and took Dane with him), landed him locked up with Grayson in an underground mansion. Grayson only wanted to know if Dane was a dominant omega.
Dane jumped Grayson (who had been sleeping before, wearing pyjamas with puppy prints and a sleeping mask),....and tried to top him!
But Grayson fought and was not willing, saying that he wouldn't consent, neither front or behind when he became aware that Dane tried to use his pheromones.
Dane still used his pheromones, knocked out Grayson for a short time and forced him into rut, but decided to bottom (and strangle poor Virginina), for the first time of his life.

It needs 5 dominant alphas to force a dominant omega into heat ( the fate of Keith Pittman's poor dominant omega father).
But normaly the pheromones of a dominant omega can be dangerous for dominant alphas. They can knock dominant alphas out and force them into rut. In addition they are difficult to identify, they could pass as betas.
Dane is an extreme example.
I think dominant omegas prefer to bottom if it's a dominant alpha. Happened to Dane in the end.

Dominant/extreme omega is very rare in this universe. They are 4 of them Koi (miller sibling daddy), Angel (who give birth to Keith), Dane (josh friend and grayson partner) and Bills (youngest in miller sibling). They can feel if someone is a dominant omega, just like how koi know that dane is a dominant BUT everyone in this universe can't identify dominant omega thru physical appearance (dominant alphas have purple eyes). They can knock out and induce rut on dominant alpha with their pheromones but it takes 5 dominant alphas to induce heat to them, that's why Angel have 5 dominant Alphas. They can know if someone is a dominant omega by the butterfly mark on their hips when they aroused.
Dominant omega pheromones is powerful and Dane use it to grayson.
I just wanna ask— If dominant omega and dominant alpha got to be together? Who will be likely to be the dominant one?
