you are so smart for this its genuinely kinda crazy how strict the expectation of purity and chastity is in the josei/smut/romance categories?? like yes i agree that a male mc that sleeps around while being a total dickwad and a perv is gross n something to be icked out by, an adult engaging in adult acts with other adults??? all consenting parties??? we cannot be shaming people for choosing to have sex. and honestly the ppl who are like "if he liked her he shoulda saved himself for her" like,,,, they're kinda forgetting that as the reader we have waaaay more knowledge than each of these characters. we know how everybody feels and what they want, but from the perspective of dohyun he thought he would never get the chance to be together with seoha both physically and romantically so why bother saving yourself for something that will never happen? that just being another added layer to the rebellion against an abusive household and a struggle for a sense of power, control, and autonomy over his own life. i can understand wanting a story about 2 ppl falling in love and sharing first times tgt but i think theres plenty of those??? and part of what pushed the plot forward is the fact that he's already experienced. this story wouldnt have been as realistic if he had 0 experience bc why would she have asked him to sleep w her lol she asked yes bc she knew him already and he's good looking but bc his experience meant it wouldnt have to mean anything to either of them and would probably feel good. its not so realistic to have 2 ppl share a first time no strings attached. thats just not the story this author wanted to make
yes thank you! im in total agreement! heavy on the part where we're the reader so we know far more than the actual characters because if we look from either perspective of the characters, SO MUCH MISUNDERSTANDINGS and so much things left unsaid until they finally talked it out omfg
im gonna hold ALL of your hands when i say this... just because he liked her, doesnt mean he has to date her. YES he did in the end, but you must understand that he did that after he matured. yes, he has done some things in his youth, but who hasnt? children are a product of their environment, and a 'broken' household produces a 'broken' kid. he did what he did, as a way of rebelling against his abusive father because that was the only way he felt like that was the only way he could regain autonomy, freedom and the choice to choose what he wants to do. unfortunately, seoha is collateral in dohyeon's struggle for regaining control. yes, he slept around AND IM NOT GONNA USE THE TUTOR EXAMPLE BECAUSE HE WAS LITERALLY A MINOR and his tutor was literally an adult so it was practically non-consensual. you can argue that maybe he was 18 so age of consent, right? whatever, but at that age, you are really just figuring out what you want and what you wanna do. and he's in highschool, he's still an adolescent. he's still in a vulnerable age group. he's susceptible to grooming, and adults who take advantage of adolescents like that. so don't ever use the example of him sleeping with his tutor as evidence for saying he sleeps around. because he was trying to get back at his dad, and the tutor, WHO IS VERY MUCH GROWN, took advantage of him.
i need to remind you guys that we're reading about them IN COLLEGE. they're no longer in high school, which means he's probably changed a great deal. he stopped sleeping around when they started their little 'thing', which counts as a change. it shows that he wants to take responsibility. you cannot keep holding him against his past. people change, and sometimes, for the better. he seems serious about her now, and he seems like he wants to better himself FOR HER, so i dont get why people are so hung up over the fact that he was sleeping around.
