how can you set the measure for what's equal anguish on behalf of someone else? imo, him "losing" the championship, forcibly abstaining for years from the field that he tied his existence to, and experiencing rejection from dan (whom he doesn't fully realise is equally existentially dependent on beyond the emotional accommodation - since dan, too, is now tied to the championship) would be the harshest punishment according to his values. I just think the author just hasn't properly portrayed the heartbreak that comes with it.
we aren't JK, and he isn't us. It's easy for us to say that he hasn't suffered when we don't have the same ideals and weaknesses as he. But tbh, I don't say that because it'd make me no different to him, dictating how he should or shouldn't feel and experience for my own entertainment. it's a bad look.

Yall at least hes being self aware this time. Obviously you cant just snap your fingers and become a different person. From being a complete jerk its hard to change especially in a small amount of time. This is big change already that hes SELF AWARE and lowk notices Dan's feelings and emotions
