Dude this shit was pretty common in European empires. Marriage was mostly political. That's probably what happened to the emperor and the duchess.... It's also a common trope in fictional writing

I still don't understand why the former emperor their father have to have the grand duchess as his first wife they even have a child together when apparently she loves FLs mom since his days as a prince
