Is a cultural thing, in many countries you just can't do that to a family member no matter how bad they are, I mean, yeah Megumi depends on him economically but he obviously cares for that asshole and what he thinks because Megumi is a "Good traditional kid" who cares about his and his lover's family wich is an ideal, he is also the only son of a rich family, him (and the mangaka) don't think of it as an issue when comparing it to the benefit of "hoping to have a better relationship with him in the future" is so sad because I genuinely imagine Megumi being "happy" if his dad ever "accepts him and Tsugumi" even tho that doesn't erase the fact he is TRASH.
Like, literally I've read so many mangas with shitty parents but usually goes like "But I still love you/I forgive you" only ONCE I saw a manga (a Yuri manga) were one of the protagonist actually cut things off for good with them and that chapters felt heavy, and had a long explanation just to justify her choice even when it was well deserved and the best for her.
