Oh this might be why people are disliking. My tone isn’t to look down upon BL. I think I say this because I also read lots of books where there is a somewhat clear distinction between m/m romance and queer coming of age literature with dating in the mix. In manga it is harder to explain. I think manga that are just as focused on character (especially as teen and in the experience of growing up queer) as romance do feel more coming of age/ slice of life BL than strictly BL, where most of the stuff, include the characters in their entirety, are about the romance.
Maybe I said it wrong. It is a BL (as created) with slice of life/ coming of age elements.
No, it’s the later. Like I clarified in the another reply, it is a BL (ergo romance) with slice of life elements. my original comment itself was influenced by how much I appreciated the slice of life elements (I found the queer coming of age perspective relatable). A coming of age romance denotes a romance with coming of age elements.
Hence, main genre: romance. Sub genre: coming of age/ slice of life.
As opposed to something that is purely/singularly romance, if that makes sense.

This feels more like a coming of age romance than strictly BL no? I like how their types are vaguely like each other. Also it’s so cute the mitsuru fantasizes about saving someone and falling in love while jiro fantasizes about being saved. Compatible from the start. It is difficult to date your only queer/gay friend because the fear of things going awry and losing that relationship comes with losing your only queer/gay friend too. It do be like that sometimes.
Also re: dating apps, I think minors should never engage with them. If an app explicitly wants to ascertain that you’re above 18 then respect that. If an app says it’s safe for kids to use, trust that it will be full of pedo predators because they never respect minor only spaces. Keep safe people.
