I get why she doesn’t want to say she loves him, but the signals speak otherwise, so it’s really confusing and cruel towards him. Even if she died, the kindest goodbye she could offer him is the truth. At least her memory would give him the solace of love to comfort him in his grief…but grief with confusion and mixed signals and abandonment overshadowing the memory of their loving relationship gives no comfort at all and just compounds the grief
