Gosh it was soo good! Long rant ahead. The pacing and timeskip was properly alotted. We rushed on some parts but it was properly explained. For such a detailed world building explained in less than 50 chapters, it was fleshed out well. Each and every characters are fleshed out, flawed, and had great character development. I feel so much pity for crispin and especially thurston. To see their people mass murdered while feeling helpless. To see their family being humiliated even after death. The trauma that they have to live from events they cant control. To see them hit full circle by falling inlove with the same nationality that erased their country. To see them heal and accept their past as they try to move on. It took so much time and courage for them not to cower and self destruct. And im so proud of them for it
Meanwhile, hill and ivan were forced to face the consequences of their own decision. With ivan being haunted by the fact that he was a bystander and worsened the situation with his rash decision. He was not bad but was a product of an evil environment aka his dad. His ending was fitting. But i also want him to keep in contact with hill. They have such strong bond with hill that its sad this is how their future will be. Away from each other never seeing again. While hill, i understand his thought process and the reasoning behind his leaving. I cant blame him cos what his fanily did was no joke. Even though it was not him directly commanding those decisions and that he is powerless to make any changes, doesnt leave the fact that by association he is responsible too. It was so frustrating to hind fault in him for leaving cos his reasoning was very rational and logical. But im really sad that even after everything he can never truly be free because events he cant control. I hope he get to be very happy in the future and maybe in more years, he and ivan can he reunited
I cried so hard during their separation because i cant find fault between the two of them. This is no black and white, redflag green flag moment that can just make me decide who to hate. Each character had compelling reason. Hill wanting to leave because he thought their past will not allow them to be happy. And crispin wanting him to stay but ultimately respecting his decision. I hated when posessive semes selfishly denies and even imprisons their ukes from leaving, but when it actually happens its just so painful. It was painful seeing crispin keeping it together even though he is literally dying inside just to honor hill’s decision.
Overall it was such a good read. If the official trans has so less gramatical errors and typis, i bet the experience would increase. But it was still great!!!!
