This is also the first time either of them has truly felt so strongly for a partner. This relationship is full of firsts for both characters. Traumatized people don't make perfect characters or predictable ones. Let's embrace that. The story makes sense because it delves into what happens DURING the relationship, lots of ups and downs. I'd say it's pretty realistic and the characters are both incredibly well written.
