Oh Boy...

This story started out promising, but it soon lost my interest as the FL's quest for vengeance dragged on and got too convoluted. (But I powered through!!) There are two things I can say that I liked about this story: 3-pairs of half-siblings who aren't out to kill each other and the youngest pair actually tries to protect one another from harm real or perceived. The other part of the story I liked was the Commoners revenge on the grandmother; although I wished they would have let her view the empty vault.

Also, honestly, I would have preferred the younger sister's parents to have survived. Living as cast-out nobels who are no better than commoners. They would have to watch their daughter(s) grow up without them.

And how are you going to announce the Celestial Custodians return to the empire with 1.5 CCs?? If they were going to be part of this story -- how about having some of them survive but live in hiding or living in another country waiting to return. Or show the decline of the empire without the CCs living amongst the people of the empire. Otherwise, the author could have made the FL a descendent of witches and it would be the same amount of impact to the storyline, which is nothing at all. Final Score: 2-Stars.
