I think both Gwen and Amon are dragons (or dragon-adjacent). Amon feels like a half-formed dragon and the jewels that he eats screams “dragon cores” to me.
Gwen, though, might be a dragon/ dragon blooded descendant of Erya and Yanu. Yes, I know the lore says dragons and humans can’t have kids and dragons just “happen in nature,” but Erya was a monster/dragon-obsessed wizard who did experiments. So I’m clinging to the idea that Gwen is the result of one of those experiments. The pink hair and eyes feel like a visual hint too — mix Erya and Yanu’s colours and you basically get Gwen. That would explain his intense, unreasonable pull toward Nain.
Nain, to me, is clearly a dragon mate: someone who “completes” a dragon. Without a mate, a dragon goes mad and dies, so mates are a big deal. There’s no fated soulmate thing; some humans are just born more “compatible,” and it’s a free-for-all until the bond is fully claimed.
So my core theory: something is broken in Nain and Amon’s bond, and that crack lets Gwen step in and try to claim Nain. I also think Amon and the High Priest clan are drugging Nain and messing with his memory so he doesn’t run, rebel, or self-destruct.
Basically, “The Tale of Two Gods” is just a giant, glittery birdcage they’ve built to keep Nain trapped.
