for the plot, well partially it's because athy has too much mana that diana's body can't keep up with her.

spoon talked to me in one of my dreams and told me that the reason Athy seems like she's not aging is cuz she'll straight up look like Diana if she does, like it's a matter of art style/choice. that aside, there are many mentions, from different characters, that Athy resembles Diana a lot. the panel you're talking about is a flashback of before Athy's birth, I wouldn't call it 'creepy' cuz that's obviously Diana. mother and daughter looking so much like each other isn't very unusual, yk.
Now, Im questioning creator-san why she killed Diana. Damn. She's so gorgeous. I will use black magic as well. Not to forget her but to revive her.
