Lol it certainly looks like a griffin. Dunno why they say dragon...>.>
based on a book i red, griffin is a dragon, there are many types of dragons like cockatrice ,kraken and basilisk , they dont look like a usual dragon though xDD more like a fusion/combination
of animals
a griffin has a lion's body and an eagle's head
Yes, Alois, agreed. This is definitely an Oriental style dragon - long thin body and tail, no wings, beard, horns, long "whiskers", tufts of hair on the shoulders... classic Oriental. I haven't seen the bird legs before; usually short legs with the tufts off the ankles, but there are probably as many 'versions' of Oriental dragons as there are European.
She or he meant this 1.:

This 1 clearly not a dragon. Eagle head and a lions body
And just WHAT is a pollito? *sticks pinky out while drinking tea* ;)
On the other side, as a wanna be author, I feel some responsibility (and desire) to not distract my readers with inaccuracies that might interfere with their immersion in my story. When dealing with reality (or established myth or traditions) it means following these conventions, UNLESS I provide a plausible explanation for why I am not. You are absolutely right. If the author says it is a darn dragon, it's is a darn dragon, but that statement - without explanation - may come at a price where readers knowledgeable in that area are concerned. If, however, the author choses to do so in spite of this, they are well within their rights to do so, so it's a darn dragon... if it's not a translation error ;)
So why didn't ALL of your post show up the first time I replied... Did I hit the wrong button? Certianly the author is God of their own universe, but their reader is not living there - they are there on a tourist visa, so if something is called as one known 'existing' thing and then revealed as a different known 'existing' thing, the reader may be confused and thinking about it and not the story until they understand why. That is why I think it is wise - not required, but wise - for a writer to not completely stray from known without a reason. Exaggeration is still loosely based on reality (eyes), colored hair can be left to the imagination (leave it to the reader when there are options), but if a darling little chick gets called a dragon, the reader may be very puzzled until they know why, and frustrated with the story of they don't find out, but once it breathes fire, they'll go, 'Oh, I understand now," and can (hopefully) enjoy the story again.
Now, made up things are another thing altogether. A base in reality/logic is good (even in Harry Potter, the magic followed rules), but there is a whole lot of flexability because the author creates the rules and will explain them to the reader as the story unfolds. That is why I think sticking to some reality is beneficial in writing fiction too. *nods to the audience. Nods to the teacher. Steps down from the podium and goes back to the tea at her desk*
LOL - been a looong time since I've seen Total Recall. But you quite misunderstand. See, I won't be limited by gravity for too long because I have on backorder DIY plans for a curiously efficient pair of Griffin feather wings, and I happen to know Griffins are quite fond of white rabbits fed carrots pulled during a blue moon. Once I get the plans, I figure if I can just lure in a Griffin so I can collect a few feathers, and I'll be flying in no time. Although Mars is a bit far to go right now. The wings are designed for air. I haven't ordered the space upgrade plans yet because I haven't found out where I can get any of those fire breathing pollitos yet. Those are the only dragon kind small enough to be trained as a power source for the propulsion unit, but, if I'm honest with myself, I have to admit really don't have time to train them either. That, and the Quantum Relitivity Time/Space Modification Enchantment is REALLY expensive, so I don't think I'll make it to Mars anytime soon either....
*stops to think about what she read, then stares at Moi?* Wait... No way?! You have the Back to the Future car?
what time zone?

How is that dragon? Isn't that a griffin?
