And, spoiler, plot still stays heavier than the BL as well as a little revelation that makes the reveal pretty useless at the end.

Me too. I think it's just an element to help building up the plot. Either the author will keep their relationship the same at end of the story or show them loving each other but i would go for the former lolol
my bet is on the former tho i prefer the latter
Barely a shounen-ai too but it's still a BL and the author just heavily focus on plot.
