And, actually, I was pondering that only-one-mate thing myself - if bitten by two people at exactly the same time, could an author make a 3P lifemate thing work (considering the author always chooses to some degree what type of omegaverse they're going to represent)? It'd definitely be impossible in some/most stories, I agree.
