thats what Ginger was trying to do but it's undeniable that some content of the book turned out to be true, and was information Laraje already knew. I'm sure Laraje also knows about her family's magic lineage to some extent so it's not a lie that can be washed away. So no our FL isn't dumb, just everyone around her is a bit smarter XD...
