from what I understood, relations between man is kinda normal in the battlefield. Besides, due to Matisa's personality, I don't think he'd be ashamed of coming out of the closet.
So I'd say the author just tried to make Matisa to be one of those "wanna be bisexual" guys? Who sleeps with anyone and doesn't love anyone?
I can't really put any personality in any of these characters, that's why I said "wanna be". Don't take it wrong, please.
It is just that, unfortunately, there are people like that, so I think the author just made Matisa out like that..
I really liked this manga... UNTIL the mc began low key fetishizing gay people and the husband raped her and all that shit. Also, this mc (and probably the author too) has the mentality of 'a seme is hot but only if he also prefers women'. That kind of fetishizing behaviour. Literally the mentality of "oh my god, those two boys are being so cute with each other, but if they're actually gay that's disgusting".
