I think what he needs to move on is to not only to consciously accept that Masahiro's in love, but subconsciously acknowledge that fact.
And I think that's something that happens with time and acceptance, rather than a new, romantic option.
And thing is, a lot of people don't read stories without romance, so if Akito got a separate story, it would be focused entirely on his relationship with the new character. And I'm not doubting the author's capability, but I'm also worried that his unrequited love will be used simply to advance the romance between him and his new lover, and that's something I'm really tired of seeing in yaoi. ;;
But aside from that, Akito was also my favorite character. I was rooting for Akito/Masahiro, even though I knew it was a doomed ship.
ugghh! i cry for akito sooo much! he was my favorite characterD: i was wishing the whole way that akito and masahiro would end up together. he was so gentle with masahiro and held him so precious to himself.
