I don't think it's correct to only blame one side here. Both the son and father are stubborn with each other and akward. They have their own reason for getting mad. Well, as the manhwa showed, the best way to reconcile with your family

Yo, he was irresponsible, that we know. But he had a kid at a young age when he's just enjoying his life and he didn't knew the kid exists until the mom came in. He's just trying to act as a proper man by trying to take the kid in. Do you pay attention that Jesse's dad told him to not lie and respect elders. He's already trying and Jesse try to do that too. The way the author wrote Jesse's and the dad's point of view is what making it so hard to accept the dad's behaviour. But when you think about both of them carefully, they're just awkward like super awkward for a long time one because he's a "teenager" the other one "wasn't ready to become a father". The only scene that i don't like was when he visited Chase first after a long time not going home, probably was blind by love but doesn't do justice ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I see where you're coming from, but that's not a plausible reason for him to treat his son like shit. Tbh no argument would be good enough of an explanation to claiming to hate your own kid. Joel is a crappy father, and although we sometimes see him making a slight effort to being a dad in Jesse's life, it's not enough. There's just too much bad blood in their relationship that's outweighing the good as of now. They still have so much they need to improve on.
