Fun fact, growing up in an unsafe environment and being sexually assaulted and abused multiple times diminishes your sense of self-worth into dust. If this wasnt made clear by the fact he was malnourished, dan doesnt have good self awareness when it comes to his physical and emotional needs. He also cant really tell abuse unless hes being violently beaten, the dude has been humiliated enough times that he doesn't acknowledge it properly.
