I haven’t read this yet and am now too scared to read it, but I have a hypothesis that people are oftentimes automatically harsher on the MC because they are the MC and the story is from their perspective. I see this in BLs mostly, but readers are quicker to blame the MC and give them negative labels because they’re used to the “annoying MC” stereotypes, which partly lowers the quality of BLs because people are so quick to judge MCs that even the MCs written with sustenance are simply labeled as annoying or stupid.
Also, you can state that the MC made a stupid choice and NOT say “he had it coming,” they are two separate statements btw. One acknowledges that he made a mistake in making a reckless decision (not listening to ML and following the other person) while the other victim blames him and minimizes him as a person. Why are we acting like the decision MC made was to be r*ped? No, it wasn’t. It’s not like he crossed the street when people told him there would be cars driving by, he crossed the street and there was a massive car accident okay???
Say what you want, but I think the author intended for MC to be questionable in the beginning. Like he’s supposed to be using sex as an unhealthy defense mechanism, which is why he doesn’t care whether those men have criminal records or are married. If he was just doing casual hookups and no complications, it’d be strange for a police officer to get involved too. It’s not supposed to be painted as a good thing, but show that MC wasn’t in a good place.
Also, not to be petty, but ML calling MC immature for communicating about his insecurities and feelings but he, a grown man who is older than MC, can’t do household chores, like PLS
I’d just like to add that the ML did learn some household stuff, there’s not much shown or I forgot—so I’m not sure if he sucks at cooking, but he did learn the manual laundry. Everyone learns in different life stages, I wouldn’t judge unless they don’t try to learn.
But yeah, I agree. ML’s comments were uncalled for, calling a minor spoiled when you know about his life or what he went through is too much. I’m glad they communicated after, but that short little angst fave me a heart attack. I wish the ML told him about the situation instead of telling him off, didn’t have to be rude!
How is MC spoiled? Eye roll.
The casual hookups situation MC was in is definitely to show that he’s in a bad place, which I agree with you. I just think that I’d be concerned too if a minor 19-year-old was having sex with men twice his age. I’m concerned a cop isn’t too concerned about dating a minor, but should I be happy he didn’t jump to sex like other men? Lmfao.
Also, the legality age dropped to 18 but at the time of the manga being published, the legal adult age was 20-years-old in 2022. This was published 2019 or before.
Either ways, MC was definitely coping in an unhealthy way. He craved physical touch, parental touch maybe specifically based on his brief family story.
Yeah, I would never actually judge someone for learning how to do household chores late, but I am bitter about ML downplaying MC’s worries as childish and being unable to recognize his own shortcomings with both communication and house chores. It seems very hypocritical, which is why I’m throwing shade at ML LOL it also seems like MC helped ML improve at doing chores, which just emphasizes how wrong ML was at labeling MC as childish

Gozu with earrings and a choker is so pretty…
