What I got was he hugs him because MC seems to stress out or become uncomfortable when he’s asleep, so ML hugs him to release his pheromones and have him relax and not move around as much.
As for the quote, ML knows that MC doesn’t know about his own sleeping habits of like tossing and turning (I’m guessing) instead MC believes he hugs him just because ML really likes him. And the ML states he’s partially right because he does love him but he’s also helping him sleep comfortably.
