Jaehyuk is such an asshole that whenever he does something marginally good, I think 'wow, so he is human afterall' the bar for good character work is in hell.
Also yeah probably the writer planned this but it's crazy, they know their art improved from BJ alex and they have significant popularity so they don't have to worry about writing a likable person. Even Jiwon (Alex) was a complete shitfest until he suddenly switched and began begging dong-hyun to come back to him. I wonder why they decided to use the same formula here but made it much much worse.
Jaehyuk pretty much rapes Dan (who already has trauma from an attempted rape, completely shutting his opportunities as a regular doctor) and Dan doesn't even enjoy sex until the last 10 or so chapters. JH's preference in sex is honestly just being a selfish dude and using the other person. Idk how the author plans to make Dan fall for him after he's dehumanised Dan for so long. Ofc the 'paying his debt' and 'being adored by grandma' helps but it still feels crazy. Will this also resolve with Jaehyuk gradually getting obsessed w Dan and begging him to stay? Only time will tell.
The revenge scheme was hairbrained in the first place, and attached to that is the fact that neither of the characters have any personality. In-seob has been spineless since the beginning, and nothing about what makes him supposedly special or unique or skilled is any of those things. He's just... a weak willed guy who wants to go up against a dickhead that supposedly caused the death of his best friend. Said dickhead has nothing good about himself either, and has not a single compelling characteristic as a love interest. I struggle to see why this manga has the popularity or the rating it does.
Obviously they've always been in love, and there must be so much heartbreak in having your lover leave you to fulfill his sense of familial piety. But not everyone gets a chance to reunite and make recompense for their mistakes right? And to still love each other so much after so many years? I'm so glad love ended right up for them. For so many couples I've read about in manhwa/manga whose the parents/grandparents were in love things didn't end so well, so I'm glad things went well here.
Is that it was initially built upon challenge, some kind of raw desire mixed with misplaced obsession. In time it's mellowing out and we see them just care for each other, unwilling to give each other up, making quietly a place for themselves together, even if it is just shin's (their) home. Their dynamic feels real like the thrum of fondness beneath the skin. Probably my favorite manhwa couple tbh.
