This was a very intriguing read for me. Yes, there is romance as it is a BL. But the whole story feels more like a mystery hypothetical what if situation, as the MC has getting deteriorating Alzheimer's he finds a way of telling his past self things through an old diary to change the past and stop his friend(ML2) from being murdered. As for my thoughts on the ending,The ending is kinda bittersweet sad but also happy kinda moment(after ML1 from real world dies, MC is super sad because it’s right after MC thanked ML1 for the first time for always being there and actually acknowledging ML1 love in the real world, after running but knowing where because of his disease he see the ML2 whom he saved in hypothetical alternate universe, ML2 thanks MC and acknowledges that even if the world where ML2 was saved was just some crazy thing he made up cause he at the end of life that he was thankful, MC comes to terms with his past regrets it by apologizing to his son for being a dick dad and then it’s shown in the alternate universe that MC and ML1 are finally happy and ML2 is still figuring it out but now stuck with crazy obsessive dude in love with him? Anyways he kinda had a bad end nlg). Additionally, Many themes are touched upon, both in depth and others in passing. Such as trama from war, how poverty affects family dynamics essentially in traditionallyish families, and way more stuff. ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
