y'all ?? i remember a long while back i began this, then dropped it, and recently today i rediscovered is and was happy to see it was done so i could binge. restarting it i was like wow? this is actually pretty cute and decent, why did i drop this in the first place?
got halfway and it dawned upon me... this shit was ass
how fucking frustrating ?? we never got to hear or learn about the ml's personal life beyond a few tidbits here and there. it gen felt like the dude didn't exist beyond the mc, so his actions Did Not make sense to me at all. i couldn't believe when i got to the end and there was still NO discussion about the ml's family/personal life like ?? like what happened to introspection??
also, what the fuck happened to the sister??? wasn't like a huge plot point that the mc has major trauma related to women bc of his sister, i thought we'd dive deeper into that beyond like 3 chapters. the story introduced her saying that she even took the mc's bff so i thought we would get learn more but she shows up for a sec, ml intimidates her and then everything is all honky dory.
and the mc's friend who has a huge hate boner towards the ml? the revelation that everyone knew the mc was bluffing about being a relationship guru?
all these major plot points felt like balloons that were going to have an exciting pop, but then the author mismanaged/forgot about them so they ended up just deflating on their own.
ugh, i can't even fully detest the story bc they were cute together if you ignored literally everything else and the art was good. that's what makes this even more harrowing all that wasted potential

i clicked on this on a whim, but these 10 eps were enough to get me interested to read all 37 chaps in spanish. what i thought was going to be mainly porn turned out to have a more complex plot ??

(sorry for how long this is, i can't do a short summary to save my life. also if there's any inaccuracies my bad, i was just typing what i could remember)
so after junhan finds the pics on habin's wall, he snaps and tries to kill him, but right at the end habin smiles and he freaks out and stops. habin, consistent with his craziness, says he'd be delighted if junhan kills him since it would be his first kill.
habin says he'll delete the photo if he goes on one last date w/ him, junhan agrees. crazy habin ends up cross dressing and copies the exact same date junhan had with the girl they do it in the bathroom and then junhan finally deletes the pic. he agrees to still be friends with habin, but lol, who would believe that? he goes back to ignoring him.
next arc we meet junhan's father who is a piece of work, an unemployed drunk that was abusive to junhan and his mom. junhan's mom ended up leaving and so now the guy has major trust issues. he meets his aspiring director rich friend in school who begs him to join his short film. (coincidentally this is the short film habin saw that made him fall in love)
junhan joins, realizes he kinda digs acting, but being an influencer gets him more coin so he focuses on that. his dad ends up stealing his money tho, and he tries to kill him but stops himself just before doing so. he ends up finally being able to move away once he enters college.
back to present day, his dad figures out where he lives and forcefully stays there saying he'll leave if he gives him money. basically a menace, showing up wherever junhan is. there's the crazy dream sequence of him, his dad and habin that finally causes him to break and try to kill him again but freaks out once more lol.
habin sees him and asks what's wrong, junhan rants and he offers to eliminate his dad for him.
habin ends up expunging his dad from korea, declaring him dead and then sending him to thailand so he can no longer come back to korea. that's where we find out habin has some crazy ass connections.
next is the play arc where habin pulls some strings and gets junhan an audition. habin is not hiding his connections at this point, but won't reveal anything.
play ensues (more of habin being crazy) but at this point junhan is starting to let go, and essentially accepts habin as a constant in his life.
as a promise to getting him an audition, junhan "promises" habin he'll spend time with him before the summer vacation is over. he ends up getting knocked out by habin's assistant/guard(?) and awakes in a isolated vacation home. this where the two grow semi closer, with habin tugging on junhan's vulnerabilities by saying he will never stop loving him or being on his side.
school starts back up, habin ends up joining junhan's acting club(? at least that's what i think), and we meet a new blonde character who is excited that junhan is back. possible 2nd ml, another stalker? who knows, bc this is where season 2 ends.

man, this is one of the situations where everything just sucks. they were both failed by the adults in their life, and it's quite valid why songrik had that mindset.
he grew up in an unstable home with a violent and explosive father. the only person who he found solace in (his mother) abandoned him. now, he's moved to a school where he is heavily ostracized and belittled for an environment he can't even control.
he meets someone he feels a bond to, someone he can relate to and find solace once more. he believes them to be similar despite their environmental difference, and then when he's met with people who keep hammering their differences and panics... to find out that jinhyeong has switched perspectives (even if wasn't fully his fault, his father is a manipulative bastard)

hate mate was the first ever korean bl manhwa i ever read - the first comic i ever fully purchased too and the reason for my unchanging profile pic.
i hesitated reading the second season for so long, and finally i decided to on a whim.
hyeonwoo was a flawed character, and i don't condone how he treated subin, but it's one of those things where he really did care for him. even if it was always too late. i wonder what would've happened had hyeonwoo ran out for subin the moment he left on that snowy day. would they have managed to work into each others life?
i'm not sure, but i do know that despite kang jun's faults he wasn't late. he did the exact thing hyeonwoo should've done, ran after him without much deliberation. subin and jun aren't perfect, but that's what makes them work.
after subin finally depleted the last bit of what he could offer hyeonwoo, and hyeonwoo released the canal was long since dry i was glad to see that he'd finally start to care about himself without the worries of others forcing him to do so.
this will still remain one of my favorites. man, it really is a bittersweet ending ;;
