I really wish I could like this more but the story is pretty hard to follow, almost as if it was a sequel to some other work. I know people have been talking about Daily witch (which I haven't read) but I don't remember Elixir being a follow-up to that ? Or have I missed a disclaimer?
Even putting that aside, everything is happening too fast, the story is jumping from one event to another, we haven't seen the lovestory build up between the two mcs and even the flashbacks fail to explain how they got together and why their relationship left such an impact on both of them.
That's too bad because there are so few yuris out there that attempt to create a coherent plot but...meh.
I think its less of any sort of continuation and more of a separate story set in the same universe. I personally didnt find it too fast, i think it matches ghe pace of the story being told.
Its not meant too have a lot of build up, just like Daily Witch. Is more an understanding of the tragedy between two soulmates. Its less about the backsgory and more about the present. The flashbacks are more based on showing you the care and love they had/have for each other. It sounds like youre comparing it to WDTFS but in this manhua they expectation is already there that you understand these two are soulmates with differences that will always tear them apart. Its just the artists' style
So far I think the ex is not that bad. He's a bit immature and a not as smart as he thinks he is. He actually had deep feelings for Aki but wanted to play it cool so he never let Aki know. Now he's regretting it but still won't admit it. Idk, I kind of like him? And I don't usually like exes who come back.

That line really cracked me up for some reason.
Okay but why is that a school assignement to begin with ? Is it something that happens in real life ? Baby-sitting a kid as group work ? I very much doubt it.
I once had an assignment quite like this when I was still in college. For psychology (child development), we were tasked to observe a toddler, record his behaviors, speech, etc and compare those to existing studies to determine developmental delays and advances. I have to put emphasis on the word OBSERVE; we were strictly told not to interact with the kid, and not be obvious that I was doing an observation.
Lot's of school have a "take care of a kid" project. We had to take care of baby dolls that cried all the damn time (like real babies) when we were in high school. The baby recorded whether you fed it, changed it, how long you let it cry, etc. It was part of a Personal Planning course. So probably something like that, I guess?
So...is Alex an absolute idiot who thinks anuses lubricate themselves? I mean, even if he despises DG he should know that penetration just isn't going to work out without lube, I mean, I don't know, I understand that he's a jerk but it seems stupid to add that scene since he's supposed to be that hot guy who's very experimented in sex.
I personally didn't need that to hate him, he's quite awful already.

Just awful, don't bother.
