since it's a coming of age story i think the ending will be their graduation tbh (im not ready, just thinking about it ending is already making me cry). but there will be a timeskip and show a bit of their college life

I have the impression it makes things worse, like keeping his hopes up instead of being honest and letting him down gently. She creates even more misunderstandings. And I really don't get what the deal is with her mother. Why she can't say, they live in the same apartment building, which is completely different from living together.
