Toga I love you but you are being silly... Ochako wouldn't kill you unless you force her to do it, because she is a *hero*, and heros don't kill people just because, even villains.
I know she is hurt because of Twice but... Twice literally forced Hawks to kill him, he didn't want to because he liked Twice (don't touch me, I'm still crying about Twice dying I loved him so much), and you are doing the same to Ochako!! Gosh I just hope Ochako tells her she won't kill her unless extremely necessary and she calms downs a little :/ I don't want these two girl killing each other to be honest
First of all for the people that is confused: What 'the final volumen will be released in January' means is... that the last volume of the series will be published then, I don't think that means a new chapter in the magazine. This was the last one I'm pretty sure!
Now on to the ending... It was not satisfactory to me. It felt rushed, it felt like it was lacking.
I've been following this series for so long, and I love it so much. What I thought it was going to be a dumb furries manga became one of my favourite stories... but the story went down from the point where Legosi leaves the school and never stopped.
As much as I liked Melon I feel it was rather pointless all this arc, we weren't shown the results of all this. It didn't really make a change for better or for worse in Legosi's and Haru's relationship which... was the main reason why Legosi wanted to change society. It was somehow forgotten that the whole point is that Legosi wanted to create a environment where Haru and him could be happy together. Melon served the purpose to show us why mixed relationships are not good but... at the end it didn't make any change other than ending the black alley market.
Also as much as I love Legosi's and Louis' friendship... what happened to the fact that they wanted to be Beastars together? What's even the point of the tittle now? For some reason it was lost along the way too.
And let's not talk about how Haru and Juno where pushed away for the whole last arc. Why even hint the relationship of Juno and Louis if you are going to end it before it even developed? Now it feels like filling. Juno was a substitute because Haru picked Legosi... and that was all.
I had so many issues with this last arc, there were so many questions left unanswered, so many issues not resolved and I wonder if this is how it was planned from the start (which means a very messy plot) or if something happened at the end to finish it so hastily.
Still I love Beastars and I'm sad it's ending because the characters are very dear to me and I'll miss them, but it leaves a bittersweet taste in my mouth of what it could have been... Even like that I don't want to say goodbye to my babies
Thank you Paru-sensei for this story! Even if it had its flaws I enjoyed it very much!
Honestly I’m kind of horrified how this entire manga was based of the premise of subverting stereotypes and the animals of Beastars fighting against an oppressive system only to end with upholding the status quo. Even with the destruction of the back alley market carnivores will still crave meat and suffer. Just because the back alley market was destroyed doesn’t mean that the animals who lived there suddenly were able to reenter society. I’m sure many of them who lived there out of poverty just had their livelihoods and property destroyed. Louis despite having the most fantastic character arc has now just settled into what he was initially going to be without any hint of a change in leadership direction other than he doesn’t hate predators anymore? But there’s no indication that he has any plans to use his wealth and privilege to change the lives society’s underclass which seemed to be what his whole arc was leading up to :/ what was the point of having so many stories expressing the issues with having an oppressive prey/predator society that showed how expectations on prey/predators based on stereotypes harmed the animals and have an ending where the oppressive system is unchanged? It’s already expressed that many carnivores go insane not because they are bad but because of unfortunate circumstance ie. Riz yet Yafya In the end is considered a hero even though he presumedly still murders carnivores under the law and makes them into fertilizer? (There was never any indication that Legoshi ever changed his mentality only that Yafya considered Legoshi to be tolerable because of his feats. An exception to carnivores) I just don’t understand how Haru Itagaki spent so much time showing us a flawed system and characters evolving to change it only to backtrack on all her hard work by creating and ending that leaves society exactly how it began only with displaced backalley market animals and Legoshi with Haru. And that’s not even that subversive considering mixed species animal couples already existed beforehand so they’re not subverting society in that way either. Sorry for ranting but I also love this series which is why I feel so passionately offended by the ending.
You said many things I agree with.
It's a great manga, with a great plot, great characters, great world... The first half of the story was amazing.
And then it went down.
Some parts were rushed, others were just weird... Characters and relationships were not treated right. It's like something happened during the writing of the scenario. The quality just dropped. And this ending is SO unsatisfying.
I still like Beastars. I look forward to the second season of the anime, and I'll keep telling people it's a good manga.
But it could have been a masterpiece and it wasn't. Such a waste.
I feel so much everything you said!!! Nothing was fixed, literally nothing!! I'm so upset as well. They just got rid of the black alley markey which is... not good? Where will carnivored get their food from? I feel it only will things messier since they didn't find an alternative (Yafya literally refused to use the alrenative the whale gave him like WTF you don't even care about the carnivores don't you...........)
I'm so sad it ended like this because the plot and premises were so good but then it went downhill very fast...
I agree completely! I don't know what happened and I still love the manga because I love the plot, the topics it treats, the characters... but the second half of the story was a hot mess! I wish things got actually solved and relationships were treated how they should have :') As you said... such a waste!!

If someone died in that explosion I-- my heart can't take it anymore !!
