I usually hate misunderstandings in a relationship but it makes sense here that due to her growing up on the battlefield, she wouldn't have had any time to learn how to grow emotionally. I say she has the emotional capacity of a teenager at this point, confused about her feelings and all. Princey poo on the other hand has grown under constant threat of political bullshit, he had to suspect everyone all the time. confiding in someone would be a rare and (dangerous) thing to do. So he has become someone who speculates and assumes rather than actively works things out. Plus his emotional capacity is about that of a teenager as well. they recognize kinship in each other but can't put that feeling of understanding and growing affection into words. Others in the situation probably could, but our MC's are emotionally stunted. This comic feels more in tune with this aspect of the characters.
