Some of yal really out here justifying the whitewashing (theyre japanese but I don't know their word for it) because it's to "get rid of the impurities in her skin when she gets blessed" and "it's just part of the plot it's not meant to be racist" smh. You guys need to understand that it doesn't matter if it's not what's intended, it's still fucking racist. Lots of people were happy to have a minority protag rise up against the predudice people of color face daily because of their skin, but then they say "oh since you're not evil you can't be black anymore" If you "don't feel what's wrong with it" then you might want to go to a hospital to check out the mess your father caused by dropping you on the head as a kid before going to get some milk
I just wanna thank the translators for doing a great job and going an extra mile to include footnotes at the end that help me understand DID more and point out common misunderstandings and things you should and shouldn't do. Its nice to see others care about awareness for mental disorders and spread helpful info, while giving us a translation of such cute story. You guys are a godsend
I understand that translating is hard work and takes lots of effort, but these translators clearly didn't put any effort into it. Instead of white knighting them, try to recognise that it's hard to enjoy a comic you found yourself loving to when it suddenly becomes illegible and confusing because someone wanted quantity and not quality. This also turns off new readers who would be interested in reading and supporting the original author/artist. The translators don't owe anything to us, but we don't owe them anything either. Those worthy of being praised get praised and those who are not are told that they need to and are given direction on how to change. You can't just pretend the work isn't bad and tell everyone else to not mind it just because you have bad tastes
Unpopular opinion: I love Dowun and even though they try to paint him as a bad guy, all he's done is his duty for his clan and future. He hasn't done anything that would endanger or harm the kingdom and made strong political relationships with others and punished criminals accordingly to the law. If anything, the mc is the issue. She has shown several times to ignore the law for people she favors, let's rumors that can harm her alliance grow instead of cutting them off at the root, recklessly left the palace without any guards when she saw the other princess instead of handling the situation calmly and rationally, etc.
Despite what I said, I really like the mc and the story, but some of you guys are white knighting her simply because she's a cute girl with childhood trauma and the weight of a kingdom on her shoulder, but she's the one who chose that responsibility and should live with her duty and consequences. And you guys like hating on Dowun for manipulation when he's the only one taking the necessary measurements and precautions so that his clan and the kingdom can continue on without the need for a war.
I didn't say he wasn't wrong, but there's good and evil sides to everything. And saying that it's concerning I enjoy to portrayal of a fictional character who's an antagonist is concerning is just ridiculous. What I read has no connection to my personal life and I would appreciate you not judging people with that criteria. I agree that manipulation is wrong, but it's the reasons behind it that makes him such an intriguing character. He also doesn't owe anyone his love or affection, feelings are not conditional or give or take. He's simply doing his job and what's best for the future of his subjects. He has to choose between what's better for one girl or millions of people, so it's only obvious he'd choose the latter.
I'm not wrong about her, and I do like her to a degree but what I was trying to say was that Dowun gets too much hate, even while being similar to her, because he's actually doing his job correctly while she can only complain about the problems that she caused through her own actions. If you can point out places where he ignores the law for others, let harmful rumors affect him (where she hasn't intervened and tell him to leave them), disappears without any way to protect himself from the dangers of others, or anything else that would harm the kingdom then I would be willing to listen because it's been a while since I've read this and might have forgotten some things.
You're clearly biased and can't tell the difference between liking a fictional character and a real person. What I've been saying has come of, as you say it, cold because I'm analyzing everything. The millions of people are the kingdom which he would rule over if the plot line made him the ruler alongside the mc, including his clan. And "good and evil sides to everything" is to see both the good and bad someone has done, not to excuse them. I can list dozens of things Dowun has done that are bad, but I can also list the good, which was the intent of my original comment because people tend to invalidate it. He is not a good person, and that's okay. I was planning to ask civil questions because I'm genuinely interested in other people's opinions on the matter but you are clearly aggressive and I don't want to associate with someone who assumes, judges, or finds my opinions about a 2 dimensional, fictional character concerning. I've always enjoyed learning about villains/antagonists. People saying they like the Joker, Light or Ursula aren't messed up or in any way concerning because they aren't real, and me enjoying to learn more about Dowun's character isn't any different. Thank you for responding but we clearly won't get anywhere with this and I'm not going to argue with someone I don't even know. I came here for a calm discussion based on facts, not feelings but it seems that it's not working out, so I'll probably just mute the chat.
