He could've just told Ibuki about the woman, and in the first place was clear about their boundaries and his intensions so the poor grieving high school boy didn't at least hope for something.
The translations is very "americanized", had to search what a sloppy joe is.

American here! A sloppy joe is generally a mixture of chili and ground beef sandwiched between two hamburger buns. So the joke is that the girl possibly *didn't actually* write "I love you" with the sloppy joe, but that the girl rather just slapped the Very Messy food item onto the desk, and Haru just saw the chili-beef mixture and "saw" the phrase in the messy slop.
Reading this again got me rooting for Hibino, hope he finds someone who truly likes him cuz I know he's just gonna get hurt in this case.(￣へ￣)
I'm confused by their family tree but nonetheless I like reading these kinds of familial bond manga. (˘◡˘)
