Thoughts About Rape In Fiction

I think as long as we aren't romanticizing rape and being desensitized about the fact that in real life its not an ok thing to do than it's fine. One, Yaoi is FICTIONAL so the rape of a character isn't real and it's ok to read that. I'd be a hypocrite if I said rape in yaoi is horrible because I've read scenes in yaoi and have been fine with it. I ......   reply

I don't mind rape in fiction either. It's not something I search for but I don't hate it, i just hate when it's so poorly written. I love dark fiction, as in books, films, manga, etc. but if it includes rape, i prefer it at least be developed (idk how to word this oof) instead of just thrown in there for shock value....if it's not written well it's......   2 reply

It depends on the context of the story it's included in and whether or not it's being shown in a realistic and respectful way. I personally believe it should never be romanticized or fetishized. It should deepen or at least add to the plot of a story. The bottom line is that it unfortunately happens in life. No good comes out of ignoring it or trea......   reply

Rape is wrong. But it is not a bad thing to put it on a fiction like the rest of all other wrong things: murder, bullying, etc. because we can all agree that what we are reading is FICTION. A fantasy. What is wrong however, is the author and readers romanticizing rape; wishing the portrayed rape to happen to you, or to anyone in real life.   reply

we all should obviously know that rape is fundamentally wrong. im not sure why a manga artist would depict it, but i suppose it could be used in ways to explain someone's trauma and why rape is wrong. im seeing some comments talk about rape, but in a way of saying "oh my god its so hot ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄ i LOVE rape! rape is so ho......   reply

I think a lot of people haven't really understand how grave rape is. And how disgusting it is to romanticize it. I was forcibly touched by a then friend of mine. That experienced damaged me a lot. Imagine being raped, by someone you love and trust. Its a nightmare. And most of the time it's just played as part of the romance. This is often read b......   2 reply

I’m fine with it as long as the rape isn’t romanticized and gives the rapist the “you’re in love so it’s fine” pass. And by ‘fine’ I mean it disturbs me greatly to see rape in any form but will continue reading it because it shows the effects of the rape in a realistic way. Bonus points on getting revenge on those who harmed them. B......   4 reply

Writing about rape isn't bad. Writing a poor portrayal of rape, is bad. Romanticizing, normalizing, and desensitizing rape, is the problem. People who use fiction as an excuse for poorly written rape is already that desensitized they need to come up with a reason as to why people shouldn't criticize the poorly written rape. It doesn't make sense ho......   1 reply

Manwhas have really been on the rise these past few years, and I have to say, as far as story lines go I believe they are ultimately better than traditional manga at this point, because manwhas are not just Korean comics, they have evolved from manga. By evolved, I meant they not only became longer story wise, they subverted typical manga tropes an......   reply
