honestly MC isn't an asshole at all. however, MC is legit that "crouching moron, hidden badass" TV trope in the form of unresolved childhood trauma and looks like he retained permanent brain damage from an overconsumption of double-sided Scotch tape as a kid, which like, matches at least 89% of the characters on this list. also every other solid character in this story so far makes up for MC's lack of assholery, so it's rlly just a group project for this story to make it on this list atp.
?? it's like the dad is the stereotypically stubborn asshole who just wants the best for their child and is willing to sacrifice their whole life and career for their child, as well as their child's own sense of free-will, believing it's for the better. so it's like he's a good dad who loves their child, but their child will never be able to see him that way because he loves his child like a responsibility rather than loves his child like a person. and it's sad bc this is so common
he's a bit ike your conservative uncle who's a bit too traditional for your tastes, but has that stern, frigid and irrationally inflexible sense of morals that come with that. his morals are also heavily dependent on things he prioritizes (being good, not being a nuisance, giving him money..). and given how he lives in a time period where murder is a byproduct of an argument over miscalculating trade, he might as well be god's saint
