time travel stuff, the prince kills her in her past life, she thinks her dad hates her. now she wants to stop her engagement (with the bf of the prince's sister), so she pretends to fall in love with this mercenary to get her father to let them mary. but the mercenary is actually the prince, and the father wanted to protect her from the royal family all along.
a miscommunication fic at the extreme, it's so improbable that it takes me out of the story sometimes
