the relationship growth and friendship between the leads feel so incredibly authentic, tender, and natural that it feels as if the author is recording the lives of real-life people. it captures the slice-of-life mundane days of teenage boys in love, but also a decent amount of emotional/somber moments from their unfortunate circumstances that balances it out without being overly dramatic. As per the title, it's only with each other that they can forget their burdens and act freely.
