I've learned through reading lots of mediocre stories that IF YOU CANNOT capture the subject of the story, have the readers feel anything for the main character (preferably like), and gain a good understanding of their goal or be curious of what's to come next, continue an accurate depiction of characters and their journey, and reward readers 
--the story won't even come close to a 7/10
