Adele has Balrog, a red dragon (he looks like a mix of a fox, dog, and cat, with a dragon-like tail and scales over his back and tail). She doesn't find out that he's a red dragon until chapter 97, though. She just thinks that he's a rare, "strange" animal.
The duke has animals/monsters as his familiars
Mika (together with Hannah, Ian, and Jeremy) raises an ancient demonic beast--Chickie, whom he has cared for since he hatched, thanks to Mika's immense magical power. Chickie, therefore, sees him as his parent and owner (even though he's an ancient demonic beast with the intelligence of a human, who could take down an entire island if he so wishes)
