He actually considers her a sister but is so close to her that at one point he actually goes to save her and almost sacrifices his life for her; meanwhile the FL got kidnapped due to his absence. At that point the FL has had enough and leaves (because of other reasons as well). There is a long chasing arc where the ML tries to win her back and she pretends not to love him
