to whoever somehow finds this list, this is really for me -- putting down stories that hit just the spot of the exact niche I want. 

Basically -- the preference here is -- the MC is involved/caught in a political scheme or has to navigate political waters among nobility and the royal court. 

This means there is going to be angst. And that the MC is actually helpless and needs saving. MC is also not always a Mary Sue but they are often devoted to the ML (and the ML is devoted to them)
