The kids were all heartbroken and angry. The fiance(forgot her name, going to call her Ophelia) had no idea that her dad was planning on killing Shuli, however, once the people who were in charge of investigating(Nora) found out about her father's involvement, Jeremey and her got a "divorce"(weren't married yet, but not exactly engaged). Her status dropped significantly and her chances of good marriage were low so she seduced Elias into knocking her up which forced Jeremey to allow them to marry.

Oh wow that kinda shakes up my perception of the girl but at least in the current timeline she seems okay so far.
