he needs to be defeated or have a drastic change in his life for the character development and i feel like he isn't happy because the challenges were fairly easy and he never really knew the feeling of overcoming a huge obstacle, so if he were to lose this match and have a rematch, i think he would change

I guess you're right. But honestly I don't really care whether or not he loses or wins or maybe I do I'm not sure . Although one things for sure I just want to see him happy with emotions. He kind of reminds me of Saitama from one punch man . They both lack in emotions and want to find someone strong. In my opinion I honestly don't mind the whole main character OP beat everyone kind of thing. But at the same time I want to see him by again someone strong. Although I still want him to win but I want him to at least put up a really hard fight. I feel like once he actually has put a lot of effort in a fight his personality will change by a lot. I think that the purpose of "you need to be defeated to grow " only apply on people that care about the victory or being defeated.
Yu doesn't have any interest in neither of those. So, him being defeated will not change his character since he is not particularly involved into this sport.

He's trying to find this light or what ever. Being defeated by someone my spark an interest in him and make him want to work harder. So now he has something to work towards to.
