This is all just a one hella bug lump of misunderstanding
First for the girl(forgot the name) I'm guessing that she actually had(Orr probably still has) feelings for the Duke but she thinks that she was just being used so that the boy can't marry the princess, and I think she got hurt by that so in result she's acting the way she is
Second for the boy(also forgot his name) I think he really had feelings for the girl, but she kept saying that she was her "best option" which in result got him really heart broken and hopeless
But, that's not the case is it, yes the girl first got married to the Duke because he was her "best option" but before they got married she kept thinking about the boy and in some panels I can see her blush so I think it's safe to assume that she really had feelings for the duke, but that asshole who was also courting the FL said some unwanted information and maybe not even true, maybe the duke really wanted to marry the FL because he loves her, but that asshole really needed to run off his mouth and say some utterly useless words
(Okay I got off topic) So in short of all this this is just some ONE BIGGGG MISUNDERSTANDING
