I’m guessing his wolf powers were dormant until Saloui (probs spelled wrong) gave him a think a way to wake it up by his presence being around or close by so he started breaking the curse. I forgot entirely about this story and I think the author probably grew bored of this story too because it feels like it’s coming to an end with no proper explanation really
im willing to ignore the uhm...peculiar plot and lack of consintency and just delight in the fact that yes, the vampire shitbag WAS mindcontrolling gabriel in the first chapters and that's why he responded that way to him. It stopped working right after saliou somehow passed his anti-vampire thing to him or his own wolf blood awakened. Although it's also a plothole why he can be controlled if he was a wolf all along but whatever. I can finally unjudge gabriel for being thirsty beyond reason
