Idk, the manga is still on going (still spoilers) but I think she's trying to find a balance between sanity and madness ; she fell in love, married a man, got back her efforts, got a dog and... the second one.

So after he learnt Airi's story, he begun to be gentle, gave her the affection she didn't got and, you know, Stockholm syndrome so yeah.
Until one night, she discovered that she's not his first victim and he planned to kill her, cut her body in pieces bla bla put in a jar. She felt betrayed, tried to escape and failed; so he started pulling her fingernails. She escaped again, try to kill him annd....
She recovered her wounds, but she didn't kill him: he became her dog, with no arms or legs. So yeah, the karma.
