i guess it was something about being told to fight the water.
but since she dint do what she was told. she dint blindly accept the conditions of the test. she instead accepts the water. it would make sense since your trying to contract the spirit instead of fighting it.

Ray said that spirits choose their masters. and, i guess the water spirit chose her bc she didn't try to forcefully take control over him ... idk that's just one of my thoughts
