That's a good theory, perhaps add to that that maybe they were reincarnated to fix the past? Like, maybe the emperor genuinely reflected after his love's first death and wanted a chance to redeem himself?

Yeah, like, he tries his best to survive without hurting others (avoiding what happened in his past life since many workers died while trying to help him). I mean he seemed really offended when the emperor was insulting and degrading the young prince, he could've just been like "he ain't physically hurting him so I'mma stay out of it cuz I hate interacting with him" but he stood up for the little prince. Which sort of lets us know that he has enough influence to sway his negative and violent behavior into something either neutral or positive. All I want tho, is for the brother of the uke to fucking die, I swear that guy is the worst and needs to be eliminated
